The company reported zero lost time accidents and an all time low of only three recordable injuries in 2011. This record-setting number for Bentley Prince Street is attributed to a number of corporate programs designed to increase overall performance for the company and its associates by improving safety and boosting wellness. With approximately 150 employees on the floor during a shift working in a wide variety of operations, including yarn processing, tufting, dyeing and finishing, safety and injury prevention has always been and remains a top priority.
In 2009, the company made some adjustments to its safety training methods and implemented the “Do Not Gamble with Safety” incentive program, which has been greatly received by managers, supervisors and associates, and has also paid immediate dividends.
How it works:
- The mill is divided into safety teams with the following criteria:
- About the same number of members as possible
- Similar or related job duties
- Team Safety Points are given on a quarterly basis depending on the team’s positive safety record.
- Team Safety Points are given on a quarterly basis upon completion of the assigned safety training.
- Individual Safety Points are given upon volunteering and completing additional safety training such as:
- First Aid, CPR and AED.
- HAZMAT/ HAZWOPER (Chemical Spill Responders).
- Fire Extinguisher Training.
- Individual Safety Points are given upon completion of Safety Suggestions, which are redeemable for “safety gifts”.
